It's here, and it started earlier for us than most. Actually, we just left the draft room (around 3:30 am) to get a little bit of rest before reconvening in a few hours for our annual pre-draft breakfast.
Preparing for all of the possible contingencies is a difficult task, which is made even more difficult with the additional picks. That being said, we're not complaining. In fact, we're very excited about what the day could bring for the Padres.
The first pick will be around 11:15 am pacific time, so our first pick will likely occur between 1:00-1:30 pm - a short eight hours from now.

Go get em guys. Good luck on drafting the players who are highest on your boards. Lets see the youth bring San Diego a championship in a few years.
I'm very excited, too. Good luck!
If Brett Wallace falls, get him! Two-time triple crown winner in the PAC-10. If he were built like Anthony Hewitt, you know he would be a top-5 pick. Take advantage of the scounting prejudice with less-than-ideal bodies.
Good luck, Paul. See the draft. Be the draft.
Hey Paul,
This is the most interesting blog I read - thanks for doing it.
I have a question about your draft preparation: Assuming you do a fair amount of scenario planning (i.e. "If team X takes player Y...") for the first round and other early rounds, how do you prepare for the later rounds? How much time do you spend preparing for early rounds vs. preparing for later rounds? Is this even an appropriate way to think about it or do you avoid "round planning" and focus more on the players themselves and building a draft portfolio as you go along?
Thanks again, keep up the great posts.
Dear Paul,
Please draft the next A-Rod. Except a less annoying version.
Thanks.
Your SD-fan buddy,

Best of Luck! Go Padres!
Good luck Paul, lets bring in some future Pads. I'm personally hoping for either Gillaspie or Collier with the first pick...
Thanks to Geoff Young, by the way, for providing draft capsules on top players throughout the past week. That's not exactly something I can do.

If time permits, though, I will try to provide some posts throughout the day detailing some of our picks.
wow, what dedication posting at 3:57am after what appears to be a long arduous night. Good luck today!
