"Great day" indeed! Awesome job by the Padres. This is a big step in the right direction. I've been a fan since I was 5 (now 34) and have been through some lean years. Even though this year has been (mostly) a struggle, I can't remember the last time I was so optimistic about the direction this club is headed.
Is it possible now to give a more detailed scouting report on the players the padres signed, I remember on draft day you were limited by time. Aren't we all?
Padres front office should be proud of themselves for scouting and researching and then following through to signing on high ceiling high schoolers with options. Fourth highest total for first 10 picks, impressive debut for Moorad in that regard.
One of the many reasons I've enjoyed the blog is you give a look inside the different things that fill your time in your role. So now that you're through everything related to the 2009 draft and presumably done with visits to the affiliate clubs and much in the way of trade activity, what's on your calendar for the six weeks? Will you be part of the club's delegation out at instructs?
How close is Brian Giles to being activated? I was looking at the updated Elias stats and I was shocked that he qualifies as a type B free agent after this miserable season. It would be nice if he can be showcased to get an additional pick.
How do you feel about showcasing him at the expense of playing the kids, if it will guarantee a compensatory #1?
I saw that the Padres named the players they are sending to the Arizona Fall League. Looks like a good group and I'm hoping to make it out to watch Gomes, Hunter, et al. in action. I was also wondering if players like Tate and Everett Williams will be working out in instructional leagues at that time, and if any of their workouts/games are open to the public.
When does the rule V clock start ticking for the players signed from the Dominican or other countries?
do you see the Padres being active on the rule V draft going forward? It seems that the success of the previous administration drafting ball players, there will be less room.
please rest Latos, please. I would also be nice because he would maintain rookie eligibility next year, and having a rookie of the year would be awesome, but more importantly, why risk injury?
Let him rest. The season is lost already, and he has a bright future.
Why are you pitching Latos one more game which will cause him to lose his rookie status? I would think that he'd be close to the Rookie of the Year favorite for next season (with Heyward). Or does the organization not really care about awards like that?
*crickets* Paul, we love your updates. We love hearing about the minor leaguers (even if it's through eternally rose colored glasses). We miss your attempts to sell us on Kooz. We are looking forward to pointing out Venable's ridiculous BABIP to you. We can't wait to ask you why Headley has just 10 HRs (which is more than David Wright - I'm nothing if not fair). We can't wait to point out how Junior Gwynn is living proof of "regression to the mean." We may be pains in your backstop, but we miss you. If you are being told to cool it by the higher-ups, tell them to buzz off. We miss you. Come back to us.
Paul, It seems like Luis Durango should have been moved between leagues faster. I know what he's doing with the Padres isn't going to last and he'll start in Portland in 2010, but he looks outstanding for a 23 year old. How does he appear in Padres plans in 2011 and later?

Go Padres!

As always, THANKS!
Paul,
What are the chances Poreda gets called up to the big league club this year?
Where do you see him starting out next year?
Lastly, since he has already been called up by the White Sox, how does that impact him with regards to arbitration with the Padres?
Last three starts aside in the minors, he looks like the jewel of the system right now. Him and Latos could make for a nasty tandem down the road.
Anyone know what has happened to Kellen Kulbacki?

Thanks and nice work with the draft class.

I love the new start times. This way you only need to be 'sick' half day.
Do visiting teams complain about those type of start times since I was the understanding the early start times were to accommodate for easier travel?

Tincaps Midwest League Champs! Let's see if a couple of these prospects end up at Petco.

We have not heard from you in a while... Please tell us that you are not seriously thinking of bringing back Milton Bradley...
Best,
zino
a blog post on the Kevin Towers situation would be nice
I'm guessing this blog is on lockdown since you've gone silent and now KT is gone.
But I think I speak for more than just myself when I say please just post up some kind of update, even if it's just to say you can't update anymore.
