4th Round Pick

Keyvius Sampson, RHP from Forest HS in Florida

Keyvius is a very athletic right-handed starter with a fastball that ranges from 90-96 mph and a very good changeup. This season he posted a 0.83 ERA, pitching 59 innings, giving up 19 hits and 14 walks while striking out 113. We believe he has big upside as a starting pitcher.

Another Padre pick, no, another GREAT Padre pick. Sampson ranked 47 on BA's Top 100 draft prospect. Popped at 114.

Padre scouting dept. killin' it so far.

LOVE the first 4 picks. It's great that we're finally mixing in some guys with huge upside to go with our depth. I don't think BA will be rating us in the bottom third again next year!

If you can sign these three kids, that is like the equivalent of getting 3 first rounders from this draft. The system needs talent, but I am impressed if you can pull it off.

LOVE this pick. I was thinking/hoping the Padres were considering this player at 52.

LOVE it!

Tate is an obvious pick - there were 3-6 picks that would easily defensible picks @ #3. So while I'm pleased the Padres popped Tate I'm not going to go gaga for them making a good-obvious pick. Williams & Sampson are TREMENDOUS picks! Way to go Padres.

Here is another kid that many Mock Drafts had going in the top 50, some even saying he could go in the 1st round, not in the 4th round.

Great pick! In fact 4 great picks so far.

3 high school kids in the 1st 4 picks.

I know some will nit pick about 2 CF in the first two picks, but both are five tool type players and Williams bat is more advanced than Tate at this point. There is obviously no telling which will progress faster in the system.

I am very excited about how the draft has gone so far.

Someone with his stats was available in the 4th round?

Stats in HS are not all that relevant. How many D-1 OR pro players is he going against? I like his stuff and with the lack of talent in the system .. we could really use a kid with his profile.
